Dual DAT-MBA Degree

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â×ÊÁÏ is proud to be the first DAT program to offer a DAT-MBA dual degree

Healthcare delivery systems are experiencing rapid change and increasing complexity. To meet contemporary and future challenges, athletic trainers must be at the forefront of these organizations, applying knowledge and skills acquired through formal study in business and science. The DAT-MBA second-degree offering is designed for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â×ÊÁÏ DAT students or alumni to pursue a second-degree MBA in Healthcare. A DAT-MBA encourages interdisciplinary reflection and learning that are essential for athletic training in leadership roles in health care.

Current DAT students may enroll in the MBA courses within 9 credits of completing the DAT program requirements. Students who have already completed a Doctor of Athletic Training degree at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â×ÊÁÏ, who wish to complete the second-degree MBA, must have earned the first degree within three years of applying to the second-degree program.

There are six MBA courses (18 credits) beyond the DAT degree that must be completed for a second-degree MBA (see MBA course descriptions here):

The following five (5) course are required:

  • HMGT 510: Leading Human Capital in Organizations
  • HMGT 560: Digital Transformation in Business
  • HMGT 514: Technology Entrepreneurship & Venture Creation - Healthcare
  • HMGT 526: Data Driven Decision-Making
  • HFIN 546: Healthcare Finance for Healthcare Improvement

Electives (choose 1):

  • HMKT 520: Marketing in the Digital World
  • HMGT 570: Healthcare Operations Management & Performance Improvement

Additionally, students must take the following six (6) courses as part of the DAT Program (see DAT course descriptions here): 

The following five (5) courses are required:

  • HLAT 701: Entrepreneurship in Sports Medicine
  • HLAT 710: Healthcare Policy
  • HLAT 712: Epidemiology & Informatics
  • HLAT 801: Leadership in Athletic Training
  • HLAT 811 or 813: Qualitative / Quantitative Methods and Research Design

Electives (choose 1):

  • HLAT 802: Spanish for Health Providers
  • HLAT 812: Answering Clinical Questions
  • HLAT 825: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in Athletic Training
